Q) Should I purchase a firearm before taking your class?
A) You can if you know which firearm you want to use. However it's not necessary to purchase before my class. I have a good selection of firearms I use for training, and any range we visit will also likely have rentals available which will give you the opportunity to find one that suites your needs and style.
Q) Which is the best home defense firearm?
A) The best one is the one that you can work reliably and comfortably. There are also certain situations that may dictate which firearm is better. Blanket statements such as, "Shotguns are the best" or "Anything in .45 stops people with one shot" are blatantly false. There is no one system that works 100% of the time, and certainly what works for me may not work for you.
Q) Is a revolver or semi-auto handgun better?
A) Neither is better or worse than the other. Both have their pros and cons. You simply need to find what your requirements are and see which type of handgun suites you best.
Q) What are the differences between calibers, and is .45 better than 9mm?
A) The caliber is the diameter of the actual bullet that leaves the gun. The larger the number, the larger the diameter of the bullet. This topic is a bit controversial because of the varied opinions without a lot of facts. The FBI has done testing, and so have several police departments. The general idea is that all three of the more common handgun rounds (9mm, .40, .45) perform relatively the same. What was more important was the type of ammunition used, as this plays a large factor in the guns effectiveness.
Q) I want a license to carry concealed, what can I do?
A) Depending on which county you live in, you may or may not be able to get a license to carry (LTC or CCW). Some of the determining factors are the issuing agencies willingness to give out a LTC and if you have something called "good cause". Some agencies allow self defense to be a good cause, while others need something that can be verified and documented, such as a stalker or an attempt on your life.
Q) Are your classes women or kid friendly?
A) Yes, all of our classes are suitable for women and some of them are suitable for children. For all minors we need a parent/guardian present at all times. All students must also be 13 years of age or older.
Q) Which organizations should I join?
A) There are several orgranizations that help further gun rights. California has two, www.calgunsfoundation.org and www.crpa.org. These are important for state specific gun rights such as concealed carry compliance. And nationally we have www.nra.org, www.saf.org, www.gunowners.org. If you're in California you should at least join CGF and CRPA along with the SAF and hopefully the NRA too.
Q) I'm a LEO or Security Guard, can I take your classes?
A) Yes you can, and they can be a good addition to any other training you have. Improving your skill for qualifications, learning a new firearm, becoming more proficient with your duty or backup firearm.
