Why we fail

September 28th, 2009 Greg No comments

America, or, the U.S. I should say. Has been steadily slacking when it comes to educating it’s children. So, what’s Obama’s fix? Longer school days and shorter summers. He says that other countries have shorter summers, and their kids do better, so we should follow their ideas. Well, it all sounds good on paper, but do we need more fail or more proven education?

Asian countries do consistently test higher than us. However they have shorter school days than we do right now. So why copy something they aren’t doing? I think we need to look into where Obama came from and where he wants us to go. He’s from the inner-city where kids run a muck on the streets getting into trouble. I believe he wants to turn our schools into day care areas that watch these troubled kids.

Ahh, but who’s to pay for all of this? Well, you and me of course. Instead of making a more efficient system that doesn’t utterly fail, they want to just give us more of the same. More of the same sub-standard schooling. So what’s the answer? Well, there could be a few, however I think I have a good understanding of the right one for us.

Right now grade school preps you for high school, then high school preps you for college. Once you get into college you’ll repeat your last year of high school, and then move onto more interesting topics. Why are we still teaching kids that Columbus discovered America and that he was a hero? Why do we only teach our kids about 13 of the British colonies? Why do the kids only learn about three of the four states of matter? We start off by telling our kids one thing, and then changing it later on. Why not tell them how it was to start with?

I say we turn high school into college. The kids are old enough to grasp college level concepts and ideas. Then this would reserve college for a true higher learning. The system is already in place, the teachers already have the credentials. So why not step up our game and really put our kids into a learning environment and challenge them. We keep going backwards. ESL and Special Needs classes for those who can’t keep up. Dropping advanced placement classes because it’s “unfair” to those who can’t make the grade. Removing shop classes that teach much needed skills for life so we can fund these other lower standard classes.

Our country is in trouble, and it’s because we do not teach the importance of education. Screw the no child left behind. What about the millions being held back to support the one so he’s not left behind? We need to educate our kids and stop this nonsense! We should not be settling for sub-standard schooling. I urge you parents out there to think of your children’s education. Place them in schools with advanced placement classes, private schools that encourage higher standards, or home school so you can coach them towards the right path.

California is racist!

September 22nd, 2009 Greg No comments

Scary accusation right?

Racism is gone now that we have a president of color, right?

Well, I’m talking about handguns again. Currently California has a list, a roster, known as the “safe gun list”. This list is comprised of handguns from different manufacturers that have sent the state two guns, ammo, and a fee so the state can test their “safeness”. So, what’s a safe handgun? Who knows! However, to me a safe handgun is one that doesn’t blow up when I shoot it. So, the term “safe” is relative and open for interpretation. In California they say that any gun manufacturer who doesn’t pay the fee and have features like a “magazine disconnect” or “loaded chamber indicator” can’t sell their guns in California because they are unsafe.

Also, the law enforcement in California are immune from this law. They may purchase “unsafe” handguns if they like. In fact, they can even sell their “unsafe” handguns to citizens after they purchase them. So, what exactly does this have to do with racism you’re wondering?

I’m claiming CA is racist because they discriminate between colors of handguns. I can buy a Kimber that’s finished as stainless steel, but not blued for the same caliber. I can buy a gun that’s right handed, but not left handed. Of course, if they were on the list, then I could buy them, right? Exactly, I could. But why should the same gun be listed twice on the list just because it’s a different color? That’s like saying you can only sell red Volkswagen Jetta TDI’s in CA because the blue ones pollute too much.

There’s actually a lawsuit against the state right now. Tying up more money of yours and mine. The state will fight tooth and nail to keep their draconian laws, however we, the law abiding citizens, actually appear to be able to win. We’re are starting to win the good fight. We’re slowly getting our rights back. Even the ACLU is starting to stand up for people who have had their rights violated when exercising their second amendment right to keep and bear arms.

California Assembly Bill 962

September 22nd, 2009 Greg No comments

Every day I wake up, and I have a goal. A goal that I can learn from yesterday and apply it to the present. After all, if one can not learn from their mistakes, they’re bound to repeat them. Well, that’s just what our appropriations committee and our senate here in California did. They went through and rubber stamped a bill that’s so absurd that everyone needs to be aware of it.

Ok, so California is a Liberal state (just a little, right?), and we have some terrible gun laws already on the books to “save the children”. However, do we need another fiscally negative bill to be passed given this economy and our current status as being BANKRUPT? Yeah, that’s right. AB962 is fiscally negative. It’s going to take money from other funds to support itself. It’s also going to limit the amount of sales tax the state takes in from Internet and mail orders. It will also have the effect of causing sport and recreation shooters to go to the range even less, because ammunition will be harder to get, more expensive, and tiresome to purchase.

So, what are the details you’re asking? If you want to read the proposed laws you can do so here. However I’ll give you a rundown.

First, all purchases of ammunition would be illegal to felons. Gee, it’s already against the law for felons to possess ammunition. Guess we need a double law on this one so they’ll think twice about doing it.

Second, all orders would need to be face-to-face. Which doesn’t sounds bad at first, however many dealers outside of CA are already not selling guns, parts, accessories to CA because of the restrictive laws. This would just add to it making them not sell ammunition either. Let’s also not forget that felons and gang members aren’t law abiding, so what do they care?

Third, it would require licensed “ammunition dealers” (yes, yet another restriction), to finger print and ID the purchaser. Now, you already have to show ID if you look under age, just like tobacco and alcohol. However now they’ll have a file on what you buy, how often, and in what quantities. So if you purchase some ammo, and some banger shoots up the town, you may be a suspect if your purchase matches what was used. Remember, innocent until proven guilty, right?

Fourth, there was limits on quantities that were able to be transfered if you weren’t a dealer. However those were struck down for being obscenely ridiculous.

Fifth, there is not money to enforce this. The state is broke… Why are we trying to pass laws that will cause the state to spend more money at a time like this? Violent crime is at an all time low across the country, yet we’re still looking to pass laws like this for no apparent reason.

Sixth, criminals don’t follow the law. If they did we wouldn’t have a drug problem. What do they care if we add another law? All we’re doing is disarming law abiding citizens. We have rights, and we need to stand up for them. If we lay down our guns, who’s going to stop the lawmakers from handing us muzzles and forcing us to wear them? We can’t let them win, we need to be in control of lawmakers, not the other way around. They work for us!

This isn’t about Republicans or Democrats. In fact you won’t see me siding with anyone on this blog. We need to enforce our constitution and hold everyone accountable. Elected officials work for us. They should fear us, not us fear them. We’re going backwards with our country and state. If our founding fathers could see us now they’d know they failed, which brings tears to my eyes.

If you would like to read more on this, you can read an analogy by other senators here.
